Ukraine vs Russia Spaceship Fights

on Monday, December 22, 2014
I spent my first few days in Thera just observing and trying not to die, with mixed results. Pizza, Goons, UHURT, Camel, and many others have been flitting around from station to station, killing with reckless abandon, bless their hearts. Despite the carnage and the camps, a respectable market has flourished in the system, although docking and undocking to trade in these goods can be perilous. A few Theran-focused corps and communities have begun to spring up, and I decided to jump into some pubfleets to see what they were up to. The first one was a bomber gang with a terribad FC whose name I can't remember, and I ditched them quickly. The second one was led by a much more knowledgeable and less risk-averse Ukrainian named Shtuka, who happens to be the CEO of Revenge of the Liquidators, which until very recently was part of the Marmite highsec merc outfit. (On an unrelated note, the CEO of Marmite, Tora Bushido, is running for CSM 10 on a "safer highsec" platform. Please do not vote for him. Highsec is plenty safe enough as it is.)

Shtuka wanted a talwar fleet and so talwars we flew. The talwar is built for speed and missile-spewing, and its 50% bonus to missile velocity gives it a long range. The fit we used has a range of over 75km with perfect missile support skills, and this range plus the buff to MWD use keeps it safely out of enemy fire. Kind of.

We used Caldari Navy faction ammo of all types, swapping out as necessary based on the targets available.

Since Thera has so many exits available at any given time, we had plenty of options for finding opponents. There was nothing to speak of in-system so we ducked out through a null wormhole into a Stain/Esoteria border region in NPC space. We nailed a sabre and malediction quickly, but it wasn't long before we came to the attention of a Russian typhoon fleet and an opposing NC. shield fleet, each with 50+ pilots. They were there to fight one another, but we were trapped in by the Russians and several of us died.

I reshipped and the gang returned to Thera until the big gangs in Stain were able to engage one another. We picked off a bomber in Thera and a random domi ratter out through another null before returning to Stain. Nearly an hour had passed and the two large gangs had still managed to not fight each other to conclusion. We set about following them like scavengers, picking off the weak/afk ones on the edge of the herd. We caught one phoon and then I got a convo from one of the NC. pilots. He offered us a few bil to fight with them against the Russians and take out small tacklers and the like, but our FC wasn't interested and we started to scan down AFK pilots at safe spots. The first kill was another phoon, followed by an off-grid booster.

We warped to a gate in-system and caught some NC. stragglers, like a sabre and a few of their ishtars, before their reinforcements began to trickle back in and smash us. I died again, but only lost my talwar, so I was able to podscout the rest of the fleet home to Thera. We were all in cheap little destroyers, but with only a dozen or so of us we were able to kill over a bil in battleships, cruisers, and BCs. Killboard green, didn't want those talwars anyways.
